Our Founder, Konosuke Matsushita
Konosuke Matsushita built the dream of Panasonic brick by brick in 1918 to turn it into an expansive reality. Shortly after Konosuke completed his schooling, he was sent away to Osaka for an apprenticeship. As that business failed eventually, he then applied for the position of technician in the Osaka Electric Light Company. He got the job and persevered every single day, while being promoted his way to success every year. His ardent efforts bore fruits as he was promoted to the rank of Electrical Inspector, which was the senior-most rank a technician could hope for, and that too at the very young age of 22.
It was during that time Matsushita introduced a new and improved light bulb socket to his seniors that he discovered in his spare time. It was not taken into consideration and no one was enthusiastic about his invention.
Remembering his father's advice about the advantages of being an entrepreneur, he left the security of his well-paid job on June 15, 1917, to set up his own manufacturing company.
He formally started Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Now Panasonic Corporation) in the year 1918. It was challenging at the beginning but with Matsushita's hard work and innovative mind; the company grew over time and became Japan's largest manufacturer company of consumer electronics.
In the late 20th century, Panasonic became the world's largest manufacturer of consumer electronics.
Panasonic started its operations in India in 1972. Later in 2008, Panasonic India Pvt. Ltd. was formed to integrate different innovative opportunities in India.
The first CEO of Panasonic India was Mr. Daizo Ito who took charge in April 2008 and ensured the implementation of Panasonic's aggressive strategy for expansion and heavy investment in India. Since then, Panasonic has been on an upward growth in the country for more than a decade now with innovative & reliable product offerings. Today, Panasonic India is identified as a proud Indian Company with Japanese roots. Panasonic India manufactures almost every home appliance like refrigerators, washing machines, electric irons, air conditioners, and other home appliances for Indian consumers. Anchor Electricals Pvt. Ltd., an Indian Company that makes electrical lamps, switches, sockets, and other electronic items, is now a fully owned subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation.
